The Alpha Iota Chapter History

On an evening in 1939, brothers of Omega from Winton and Ahoskie, North Carolina, South Hampton and Isle of Wight Counties and the cities of Franklin and Suffolk, Virginia gathered at 205 Wellon Street in Suffolk, at the home of Bro. Sidney and Elaine Estes. Some of those in attendance were Brothers: S. P. Morton, Shirley Booth, Dr.(s) William M. Hoffler, Harvey M. Diggs, A. B. Harriston and host Sydney Estes. This group along with several others in attendance with memories of their undergraduate days in their hearts and minds, gathered to establish a regional chapter of our beloved fraternity. Out of this gathering of professional men of like ideals and common commitment to the cardinal principles of their beloved fraternity, arose the birth of the regional chapter that came to be Alpha Iota.

The Alpha Iota Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. is a graduate chapter that serves the city of Suffolk, Virginia and beyond.
